A 200 Euro tablet running android 2.1

Romanians aren’t exceptionally well known for manufacturing electronics, even though they have come up with high quality products throughout the years. While several people from the country work for top IT companies, no one really seems to know about it. So it’s not surprising at all that most companies in the country aren’t exceptionally well known worldwide. Nowadays, a small company from Romania is trying to make a name for itself on the tablet market and offer something bigger companies failed to deliver, an affordable tablet computer.

Apple’s iPad was the device that started the whole tablet trend in April this year. The nice thing about tablet computers is that they’re portable and offer a great user interface which is easily usable even while on the street. See, the thing about netbooks and laptops is that they actually require you to sit down somewhere and you’ll have to use the keyboard and trackpad for anything you want to do. This sounds simple enough because we’re used to them. But if you look at the whole deal more objectively, web browsing is considerably better on a tablet. Say you’re in a supermarket and want to check a recipe for something you plan to cook.

A netbook will be of no use to you whatsoever unless you find some place to sit down so that you can take the device out of your bag and start typing to search. A table of some sorts may also work but let’s face it, you can’t really use netbooks in public, while walking or standing somewhere. Laptops are even worse for obvious reasons; they’re much bigger. Tablets, on the other hand, you can just pull out of your bag, hold with one hand and press the screen to navigate with the other. For this particular reason and many others, people are quite fond of tablets and would definitely buy one. The only problem that remains is that this type of product is expensive. The solution? Why, make them cheaper, of course.

A company based in Brasov, Romania, called Visual Fan has announced its intention of releasing a tablet computer in December this year. The tab which was dubbed “Allview AllDro” will sell in stores for 200 Euro. The price of this one is much lower than everything we’ve heard of so far. This brings forth another question. Why is it so cheap and what does it have to offer? After all, a small price won’t convince a lot of people to buy a lower performance product. In this case you’ll be pleased to hear that the tab will run Google Android 2.1 and will come equipped with a 7 inch screen, 2GB flash memory and WiFi. Because Android 2.1 isn’t exceptionally demanding on a device’s hardware, this tablet will come equipped with an ARM11 processor clocked at 800 Mhz according to Ziarul Financiar. The onboard battery will allow the user to button away for anywhere in between six to 30 hours. For memory expansion you’ll get the standard MicroSD slot. As for connectivity, a mini HSMI port and a Mini USB are also thrown in the mix.

If you haven’t heard of Visual fan already (and chances are you haven’t), the company is better known for creating dual-SIM mobile phones that are branded Allview. Lucian Petricila, the CEO of Visual Fan mentioned that the tablet will also come with 3G in the future which means that people will be able to use it on local mobile networks. The Allview AllDro may not be the smartest tablet of the bunch, but it’ll manage to offer everything you might need out of this type of device.

You’ll get to read/write e-mails, browse the web, gain access to social networking sites and read e-books for a price that seems amazing at this point in time (note that a Galaxy Tab from Samsung can now be found for about 350 Euro on a pretty hefty two year contract). The tablet will start shipping towards multiple retailers in Romania in December. We’re not sure whether it will ever become available outside the country but I reckon all European countries would show a lot of interest for a 200 Euro tab which seems to deliver great value for money as well, judging from the video that’s embedded in this article.
