Russia Proposes Resolution Draft on Syria

Unrest in Syria
The United States on Friday announced their support for the draft resolution Russia is ready to present to the United Nation, demanding that all parts in Syria put an end to violence immediately, without implying any sanctions though. The draft is said by the US State Secretary to show a “seeming parity between government and peaceful protesters,” but would be taken into consideration very carefully by the American part.
The French envoy to the UN also criticized it saying that it needed a lot of amendments. However, Hillary Clinton said that the document would have to be approved by the Arab states, which have taken charge of what is going on in Syria.
Clinton also expressed hope cooperation with the Russians will be possible and highlighted that it was for the first time when Russians acknowledged officially that something was wrong in Syria. She expressed hope that this time the resolution will get to the United States.
The Russian proposal, which is rather surprising, comes after 27 security forces have been killed by defectors on Thursday. Russian ambassador to the UN said that the text was well received by the Security Council. It urges Syrian government to end the violence on the people and speaks of disproportionate use of force against them.
On Saturday, the Arab League expressed hope that Assad’s regime would soon sign to an observers mission that would monitor the security of the civilians. The second-ranking leader of the Arab League said that there were positives signs coming from Syria.
He said that the Arab League would meet next week to analyze implementing the program that would make sure the civilians are protecting against the abuses in Syria.
