Samsung's new Android phone ready to Fascinate Verizon users

For those who were anxiously waiting for the new Samsung Fascinate to hit Verizon today, it looks like you guys are in for a treat. The handset is already available for sale through the mobile carrier, with a price of $199, as expected. The interesting thing about the Fascinate is that it’s also available on a special offer (as you can see for yourself on Verizon’s website). People who buy a Fascinate will be able to get a second one completely free. Since this sounds too good to be true, let me mention that the second Fascinate also requires a two-year contract with a minimum monthly data plan of $29.99, just like the first one.

Still, Verizon’s buy one get one free offer is quite nice and will allow people to pair up in getting their new Samsung handsets. Would you like a Samsung Fascinate? Have a friend who’d like one also? Just pair up and split the $199 (a price that was reached after two separate $100 mail-in rebates). People who’ve already decided they can handle a two year contract with the mobile carrier are going to be quite satisfied with this offer. People who want a contract-free Fascinate will most likely still have to head on to Amazon or eBay.

Now let’s see what the Fascinate has to offer. Skinny and ‘ultra-slim’ like most of the smartphones nowadays, the handset features a 4 inch touch screen Super AMOLED display with WVGA resolution. According to its manufacturer the screen is 20 percent brighter and offers the most stunning vivid images and video. At the same time, it’s also more power efficient than the typical display and promises to consume 20 percent less battery.

On the back of the handset, photo enthusiasts will find a 5 megapixel camera with 4x zoom, face and smile detection, autofocus and HD video recording capabilities.  The smartphone is powered by a 1Ghz Cortex A8 hummingbird processor and runs Android 2.1. A 2GB onboard memory is available for storing content. If that proves to be too little, a memory card slot will allow the user to expand the memory of the device with up to 16GB.

Also included in the Fascinate’s spec sheet is an accelerometer which will prove useful for 3D like gaming and optimal motion responsiveness, access to Android Market which includes more than 70,000 apps for the mobile platform, social networking integration (all major e-mail, social networking and phone contacts are included in the same address book) and access to Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

Obviously, Samsung’s Fascinate is one of the many Android options you’ll currently find on the market. The interesting thing about Android handsets hitting the market is that they’re on special offer as soon as they’re up for sale. This might be because most manufacturers don’t limit carriers to a certain starting price, or it might be because most companies are currently trying to compete with the iPhone and surpass it in popularity. Keeping an affordable and attractive price, is after all, the easiest way for a manufacturers to sell a certain product in higher numbers.
