Say Hello To The New Google News
Information Week reported 
today that Google needs a more human guidance, this is why it will become more personal for the ones who use especially Google News, a news channel reserved for those who write for different publications in the world. This channel was launched in 2002 and ever since, it is one of the best and popular news websites across the whole world. It brings news regarding science, technology, entertainment, sports, music, business, world, top stories, news from your country, from the US and also the top rated news, that are in trending, as they say.
Google always encouraged their users to take a leap and become editors for their news, but this is possible only if you have writing skills and if you always aware of what’s happening in the world, otherwise you might end up presenting a news that you think it’s news and in fact everybody knows that already expect you. A news is not a news if it is not presented in the same day when it happens or at least the next day, depending on the timezone. This is the reason for many respected publications and magazines that “invent” news about actors, musicians, politicians, just to get a little more attention. Nothing is happening in the world at a certain moment, but they still have to write, and since they have nothing to write about they invent news about a person or other. What is even worse is that some persons, which try to be publicly known, pay good money to read a news about them in a certain newspaper. This is not a respected actor should do. Or at least, I can’t imagine a good actor or musician doing that.
Google News sends one billion clicks per month only to news websites. Do you think that this is huge? We are here talking only about the news websites. A change is about to happen in the way that people see the news available on Google News and in the way they share this information. In fact, if you are a user that is familiar with Google News, the platform, you should check out today this platform and notice that is indeed a little changed from the one that was used yesterday and the webpage presents a lot of information related to your geographical area. Just enter the website and you will see what I am talking about. If you have a Google account or perhaps use also other services and websites developed by Google, your location will be recognized instantly and all the news from your region will be displayed.
Kevin Stolt, software engineer at Google says in a blog post that the change that Google News is planning to make regards the fact that the news content should be more relevant and not only that. They want to expose previous unknown stories to the world, stories that are not necessarily a news, but could become a massive hit. What would you say if you heard that your favorite actor (since we are still speaking of actors) supported a charity organization when he was a child or run at a marathon? If the actor is very well known and it no one knew that story before, this could easily transform into a headline, that could sell a large number of newspapers and generate a massive amount of clicks for the websites that present that information.
An hour ago, I checked the Google Trends and everybody was mad about Justin Bieber cutting his left testicle. So, if we are interested in someone cutting those parts of his body, then we have no excuse of reading if an actress or an actor helped a charity organization when she or he was little. This is one of the reasons for which Google tries to make the news content being more relevant. If the news with Justin Bieber is posted in a category that attracts people that never heard of him, no one will read the story, but if the news is categorized in the most suitable location for it, such as teens or young stars, then all the young people, especially the girls will read it.
Google News until today was separated into sections, like Top Stories, World, Science and Technology, Sports and so on. But from today, the new version of Google News lets the user to select the news that he really wants through a different and more fluid approach. You can personalize what news to receive, thus when you enter the Google News webpage, you will not have to search your favorite news, because these could come to you. Personalization was optional in the past too, like today, but from now on it is clearly encouraged by Google and Google News platform.
The Google News users have the possibility of selecting not only from what category the news to come, but also the news source. So, if you like an editor so much that you want to read it every day, you simply have to select him and all of his future work will be available for you when you enter Google News website. This resembles like the Twitter “Follow” procedure. On Google News, you have the chance to “follow” your preferred editor, if you have one.
A drop-menu in the top right-hand corner lets the users to share information using not only the social networks, like Facebook and google, but also the user can connect to his e-mail address, could transmit the information using that option, could use Google Buzz and Reader services. All of them are integrated to make the user to experience a whole new level of what news mean actually.
