Scientific Analyses of the Top 10 Most Popular Monsters
There have been numerous cases when the researchers visited an isolated part of the world, only to discover that it contains new creatures, which were not documented before.
We have been on this planet for thousands of years, and even now, there might be certain species we have not heard of. This is one of the reasons why there are numerous people who believe in mythical creatures such as Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, Dracula, and so on. The existence of these creatures has not been proven, but in the same time it wasn’t refuted either. Since their discovery was not proven, that means there is a small chance for them to exist, right? There are chances for them to exist, but according to science, the chances are extremely low. Let’s take a look at ten monsters, and at the scientific analyses behind them.
This monster is the youngest of them all, as it was first discovered in 2008, in the shores of Montauk, New York. The creature was very strange, as it looked like a pig, but with a modified face: it had very pronounced tusks, and a strange dentition. Needles to say, numerous speculations started to appear after the creature was discovered. There were numerous claims and theories about it, but in the end it was discovered that the monster was actually a decomposed raccoon. However, some people say that it could not have been a raccoon, because the raccoons do not have very long back legs.
Others said that the creature might have been a turtle, a sheep, or a dog. I could say that the status of this creature has remained vague.
This monster is the Canadian equivalent of the Loch Ness Monster. Just like the famous Scottish monster, this one also lurks in the waters of a lake, more precisely of Okanagan Lake. Now, this monster is very old, as it seems that the Native Americans which lived in the area had stories about it, which they then passed along later to the European settlers. They considered the Ogopogo monster to be a demon, which claimed lives in order to be satisfied. The historians believe that actual human sacrifices were made in order to satisfy the monster of the lake. Now, according to the stories, the Ogopogo monster is a fifty foot monster, which has the body shape of a sea serpent.
Numerous people have claimed that they have seen the monster. There have been various people who said that they have pictures of the monster, some even claiming that they have videotaped it. Karl Shuker, who is a crypto zoologist, said that the monster resembles the Basilosaurus, which was an ancient serpentine whale. The problem is that a proper image of the monster does not exist, the ones which were sent in to analysis revealed the fact that the object in the picture is vague. It seems that the lake where the monster is supposed to live, is very strange, as people have claimed that they have seen strange things occurring in it.
Another American monster, the Jersey Devil was first “noticed” in 1700s. Ever since then, people continued to notice this strange looking monster. There are numerous legends about this monster, but the most popular of them says that it is the offspring of a woman, and that it was born without a head. This monster is probably the strangest of them all, as it is bipedal; it has bat-like wings, the head of a horse. As you can imagine, it looks very weird. It is said that it can be found in the Pine Barrens woods from New Jersey. Now, the reason why it looks so strange is because it is actually an offspring of the devil.
The woman gave birth to 12 children prior to this one, and when she had to deliver the 13th one, she asked the devil for help. It is said that the monster preys on the livestock, and that it makes a very strange sound when it attacks something. However, the scientists have never managed to find a single clue which would confirm its existence.
As I said, Nessie is a Scottish monster. The American needed to have a Nessie of their own as well, and thus Champ or Champy was born. Now, this monster is very similar to the one from Scotland, the difference being that it is located in Lake Champlain from North America. More than 300 people have stated that they have seen this monster, but there were not evidences to indicate the existence of the monster. The interesting thing is that people have often had mixed opinions about the monster, as they described it in different manners.
However, it seems that it has the head of a dog, or of a snake, there is mixed opinions about this aspect as well. The news about it started to appear in 1981, when someone submitted a photo depicting the monster. Later it was discovered that the monster was actually a log, but even so, the news was planted, and the monster remained popular. The scientists have said that the monster is most likely used as a mean of attracting tourists in the area.
The Feejee Mermaid or the Fiji Mermaid might surprise you, as when we think about mermaids, we imagine beautiful creatures, young beautiful women with the lower body of a fish. However, the Feejee Mermaid is nothing like that, and beautiful is the last adjective you want to use when you describe it. This monster was first presented in 1840 by P.T. Barnum, a showman of that period. Unlike the popular mermaids which had the body of a beautiful woman, this monster had the body of a disfigured monkey. It was later discovered that the monster wasn’t real (shocking right), as the two animals were stitched together.
The reason why he created the monster was to gain an audience, and to make money. Since then numerous people have created this monster in order to display them at various museums of horror. Even if it is fake, the monster is very creepy.
