Serena Williams to miss three tournaments due to injury

World number one WTA Serena Williams suffered a stupid accident which kicks het out of the race for several weeks. The American tennis player, winner of Australian Open and Wimbledon cut on a broken glass accidentally at a restaurant. The injury might incline her to miss the following three tournament in WTA Race, namely Cincinnati, Montreal and Istanbul. Serena declared herself upset and frustrated because of the foot injury: “I’m so upset I won’t be able to play in the upcoming events because of this foot surgery. Thank you for all of your support. I can’t wait to get back on the courts.” Serena made a wonderful start during the Wimbledon tournament this summer winning the trophy with no sets conceded on entire road to the final.

She made an easy start beating Portuguese Michelle de Brito with 6-0, 6-4 and won the second round much more easier as she defeated also Russian Anna Chakvetadze. In the third round came Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova as the American won the match 6-0, 7-5. As one can see, not only that Williams didn’t lost any of the sets so far, but the first three she won included a 6-0 set each. The American met Russian favorite and former number one Maria Sharapova in the fourth round. Serena demostrated lot of patience as she defeated Sharapova in two sets 7-6, 6-4. It was almost the same in the quarter final of the British tournament. Serena defeated Chinese Na Li in another two uneasy sets 7-5, 6-3. It was also the moment Serena lost her sister on the way on the second half of the table, Venus losing at Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova with unexpected 6-2, 6-3.

As a revenge for her sister, Serena continued her way to the final beating Czech Petra Kvitova with 7-6, 6-2 to reach the big final. The American met Russian Vera Zvonareva and defeated her in two sets as she already used to do it ever since the tournament began. It was 6-3, 6-2 as Serena went top of the WTA Ranking.
