The astronomers are predicting that a massive solar storm, a lot bigger presumably than the one that caused spectacular light shows that could be seen from Earth earlier this month will destroy our planet in 2012 with a force equal to 100 million hydrogen bombs.

The United States media declarations say that NASA issued warnings that the solar storm this month is just a precursor to a massive solar storm which has the potential to destroy all the planet’s power grid. NASA has been studying this storm since four years ago, in 2006, could hit exactly on 2012. Similar storms happened in 1859 and 1921 caused worldwide chaos and ripped off telegraph wires all over the world. NASA scientists say that the storm taking place in 2012 has the potential to be even more disruptive. The general belief among general and solar astronomers is that this coming solar storm which will be in 2012 or no later than 2013 is going to be the most violent in the last 100 years. This is a bold statement and is taken seriously by airline companies, communications companies and anyone who is working with modern GPS systems, the ones that the solar storm will be affecting the most.

No one really knows what will be the effect of the 2012-2013 Solar Max on today’s  technology dependant society. Dr Richard Fisher, the director of NASA‘s Heliophysics division, said that the super storm would hit by lightning and will cause causing a catastrophe for the world’s health system, the emergency services and the security system of the nations. a recent report released by the National Academy of Sciences says that if the solar storm would happen today it would cause 1 to 2 trillion dollar damages to the technological infrastructure and there will be needed about 10 years in order to recover from it. The cause for the storm is the sun entering a phase known as Solar Cycle 24 and most experts agree on the fact that there will be a serious solar storm, but the ones that estimate it will take place in 2012 are the ones receiving most of the publicity. They claim that the satellites will be aged by 50 years and the GPS system will become useless because the flares will change the magnetic field on the Earth.
