The Biggest Misconceptions We Consider to be True

Was he really the first U.S President?
It seems that there are numerous misconceptions we want to believe for whatever reasons. We are aware of the fact that they are wrong, but despite this fact we still believe them. Not everyone follows the thinking presented in this article, but there are many people who do. You might believe one or two of these myths as well.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that George Washington was the first president of the United States of America. In reality George Washington was the seventeenth head of the locally governing body of the nation. The Continental Congress contained delegates from all the thirteen colonies which governed the country during the American Revolution. Peyton Randolph was the first president of the Continental Congress, and the famous John Hancock was its leader twice. The president of the Continental Congress did not have as much power as the modern president, but he still played a very active role. The main reason why we believe that George Washington was the first president of the United States of America is because he was the president of the post-Independence government of the country.
It is said that Lucrezia Borgia was one of the meanest women from the middle ages. It is said that she wore a ring which contained poison and that she slept with her brother and father. No one can argue that she did not do bad deeds, but many of the stories are fabricated. She had some control during that period, but she was a very religious woman, and it is unlikely that she would have engaged in such activities, even if because of her religious beliefs. She died when she was 39 and because of this, many of the stories which are attributed to her never happened. The reason why we want to believe that she was a cold blooded murder is because of the period in which she lived, which was marked by many similar stories.

We like to believe that there is a scientific method for everything, but the reality is that there are many theories and hypothesis which have never been proven or tested. There are many theories about the black holes, yet no one got near one. Our curiosity made us do some of those researches. The reason why we choose to believe that is because many of the science books which we have to study when we are in school suggest this.
There are many people who believe that working out at a lower intensity will burn more calories than working out at a higher intensity. The reality is that you can burn fat and calories by performing low intensity cardio exercises, but if you do them at a higher intensity you will burn much more fat. Take the walking and the running for example. You can burn let’s say 200 calories from walking in about 40 minutes, but by running you would have burnt them in 20 minutes or so. Why do the people believe that the lower intensity cardio is better? Because they are lazy and because they want to make excuses.

It is said that Christopher Columbus did not receive too much money for his expedition because people believed that the Earth was flat. In case you did not know, the people knew that the Earth was a sphere ever since the Ancient Greek times. The main reason why the people did not want to give him money was because he did not make the correct calculations regarding the trip he wanted to take. He estimated that the distance was much shorter than it really was, and the people knew that he would not be able to make it all the way to India. The reason why people believe that the naivety of the people was the main reason why Columbus did not receive his money is because it makes him much more interesting.
It is said that King Tut’s tomb was cursed and that anyone who entered it would die. In reality the curse did not exist, it was pure fabrication made up by the reporters. There was a message on a statue from the tomb, but it did not say anything about a curse, it just says that it has the task of protecting the deceased. It seems that the integrity of the reporters has not changed too much since then. The reason why so many people still believe that the curse is real is because of the “cool factor” associated with the curses.

On 4th of July, the Americans celebrate Independence Day. However, in reality America became independent seven years later when the British and the Americans signed a peace agreement with which King George III agreed. The official date of the Definitive Treaty of Peace was September 3, 1783. The reason why people celebrate it on 4th of July is because it has been celebrated then from the beginning.
The Nazis made soap out of the Jews from the concentration camps, or at least that is what it is believed. The soap made by the Nazis had the initials RIF stamped on them, and the people believed that the translation of the letters stood for “Pure Jewish Fat” when in reality it stood for “Reich Industry Fat”. It seems that there were rumors about this custom in the First World War as well. We find this information to be true because of the monstrosities performed in the war.

It is said that the Ancient Greece gave us democracy, and that it was one of the biggest nations in the ancient world. In reality Ancient Greece is not a country but a region and more than 1,000 different cultures lived there. They all had their armies, their customs, and they were all independent from each other. The Spartans were part of the Ancient Greece as well. The reason why we find this misconception true is because every teacher has told us so ever since middle school.
