The Most Popular Three-Way Rivalries
In what follows I am going to present you the biggest three-ways rivalries. The subject has not been too debated, as most of the rivalries present the tense situation between two opposing things, people, ideas, and so on. You will see that the list includes entries from different categories, such as sports, history, and so on.
Currently the world of gaming consoles is ruled by three different names: Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. The gaming world is getting more and more popular, some of the video games making more money than some of the movies being released into theaters. It is no doubt that these three names are the leaders in the world of the console gaming. There have been other manufacturers as well, but they did not reach the success of these ones. Everything started in 1983 when there was a huge video game crash. That is when the popularity of the arcade games and home systems reached rock bottom. The main reason for that was the fact that the games created during that period were very expensive, and as you can imagine, they weren’t too entertaining. Simply put it, you paid too much for too little. There were lots of consoles on which one could play these games, the most popular being the Atari 2600, and the Mattel Intellivision.

The crash ended in 1985, and that is the year when Nintendo entered the market with its revolutionary console: the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). This was the console that brought Super Mario, and The Legend of Zelda, which are two of the most recognizable games of all times. In 1988 the Sega Genesis was released, and Sega was the serious threat to Nintendo. Sega brought another iconic game character, one which was able to compete against Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog. Atari and NES were 8-bit consoles, while Sega was a 16-bit console, thus it had better graphics. Two years after the release of Sega, Nintendo released the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) which had 16-bit graphics, and which is till considered to be one of the best consoles of all times. Sega Saturn had 32 bits, and soon afterwards Sony released their own 32-bit console, the Sony PlayStation.
It was a harsh competition, and years later the Nintendo 64, the Atari Jaguar and the Sega Dreamcast were released, all of them having 64-bits. The Jaguar and the Dreamcast were the last consoles produced by those two companies. In the early 2000s, all the other companies released a console: Nintendo released the GameCube, Microsoft the Xbox, and Sony the PlayStation 2. The GameCube was a failure in comparison with the other two and in comparison with Nintendo 64. In 2006 Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 were released, and it seemed that Nintendo lost the battle. Everything changed when they released the Wii, which brought a new revolutionary gaming option. So far Wii sold 75 million units, Xbox 360 44 million, and PS3 41 million.
The next rivalry belongs to the world of sports, and it comes from Italy’s Serie A. Usually in the world of sports you have a great rivalry between two teams such as Yankees and Red Sox, Giants and Cowboys, Arsenal and Chelsea, and so on. In Italy the situation is a little bit different, as there is a very harsh competition between three teams: A.C Milan, Juventus, and F.C Internationale Milano. There is a reason why there is a harsh rivalry between them, and that is the fact that they are the leaders of the league. Combined, they have won 62 national championships, Juventus winning it 27 times that being the most any of the teams has won. On 49 occasions, the three teams finished on the first three spots, and they are the only three teams from Italy who have won at elast 10 championships, thus have earned the right to wear the golden star on their jerseys.

On an international level they have won the UEFA Champions League 12 times, A.C Milan having 7 titles. They also won the UEFA Super Cup 7 times, and the Intercontinental Cup 7 times. This is incredible.
The U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower signed the Federal Aid Highway Act on June 29, 1956. The act authorized the construction of 41,000 miles of highway, but America was missing something: the vehicles. The three big companies entered in the scene soon afterwards: Ford, Chrysler and General Motors, all of them having the headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. GM is the leader when it comes to sales, but the main rivalry is not related to the amount of cars each of these companies sold, but about the evaluation of each automobile created by each of the companies.

It is kind of difficult to combine cars which belong to different manufacturers, because in many occasions they are very different. You can not compare their engine power for example, because one might be way superior to the other. However there were some occasions when each of these three companies created similar models. Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and Dodge Challenger, or Ford Pinto, Chevrolet Vega, and Dodge Colt, or Ford GT, Chevrolet Corvette, and Dodge Viper, can be compared against each other because they are very similar. Of course, these cars can not be compared to the ones created by Germany, such as the BMW or Mercedes for example, but still the rivalry between then is very strong.
The tile of Miss Universe is a highly disputed one, and you often have the impression that you are preparing to watch a box match, as the tension is incredibly high prior to each contest. There are three different countries which seem to rule this competition: USA, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. The competition first originated in America, and without a doubt, that country is the leader of the competition and of numerous of its categories. It has 7 titles, 15 top-two finishes, and 54 top ten finishes. However, the United States of America did not win the competition in the last 13 years.

Venezuela takes the second spot in the competition, as it has 6 titles, 6 top-two finishes, 5 top-three finishes, and 13 consecutive finishes in the top six. Venezuela is the leader in the swimsuit category, and it can pride that it has the smartest of the contestants, Milka Chulina, who scored the highest in the interview. The third spot is occupied by Puerto Rico, which has won the tile 5 times and the Miss Photogenic award 5 times as well. Denise Quiñones from Puerto Rico was the queen in 2001, as she won Miss Universe, Miss Photogenic, Best-in-Swimsuit, and Best Hair.
Sport is very important in the United States of America, and there are lots of rivalries amongst the professional sports franchises. However, everyone will say that the rivalry between the college teams is much important, and much more exciting. There are numerous excellent college football teams in the U.S, but probably the most important are the University of Florida or “The Gators”, Florida State University or “The Noles”, and The University of Miami or “The U”. Since 1983, these three teams have won the AP National Championship 10 times, and they have provided the Heisman winner 6 times.

Miami won at home 58 consecutive times during that period, and they had 14 consecutive years with a first round draft pick in the NFL. Florida won the AP National Championship in 2006 and 2008, being the most recent winner of the three, and they had the most recent Heisman winner in 2007. Florida State played in each of the first three BCS Championship games. Most of the people have stated that the biggest rivalry is between Florida State University and the University of Miami. One of the reasons for that is the fact that they belong to the same conference, and that many of their games had a very exciting ending. The rarest confrontation between two of the teams are the Florida-Miami games. Florida is one of the biggest states in the NCAA, producing such great players as Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Santana Moss, and many others.
