The United States Is Ready To Attack Iran If Necessary

Iranian Nuclear Program

Chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, Martin Dempsey, said on Wednesday during a conference in Afghanistan that the United States is ready to execute force on Iran if necessary. The assertion comes after the tension raised as a result of the sanctions imposed on Iran by the United States and the European Union.

The British ambassador was forced to leave last month, and the US drone that was shot down by Iranian air forces was never returned, in spite of the demands made by the United States.

Dempsey said that there were many option discussed by the American army and that situation was evolving toward a moment when the army could attack Iran if need be. His comment comes days after Leon Panetta, the defense secretary, made sure that no option was off the table in stopping Iran develop its nuclear program.

The chairman of joint chiefs said that though he has quietly led the preparations for war with Iran, going to war with this nation would be a tragedy. He warned that any miscalculation of resolve on American part could lead to a tragedy for the country and the entire world.

The general stop short of saying in plain words that the United States was using the drones to find out what Iran was up to. He did say though that it would be “imprudent” of them not to attempt to keep a close eye on the Iranian regime.

He added that the US was collaborating with the Israeli partners and that the cooperation was meant to reassure them that the United States was not leaving them to face the danger alone. The cooperation so far was at the level of gathering information.

Panetta said this week that the United States was ready to step in and put an end to the Iranian nuclear program. He estimated that the Islamic regime was one year ahead of completing the program.

The defense minister said that if Iran acquired the nuclear weapons it would trigger a nuclear race in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia already announced they would be looking toward developing their own nuclear capability.

The nuclear program Tehran is developing came to the international attention last month as the International Atomic Energy Agency issued a report by which it showed that Iran was closer to completing the weapons than previously believed.

Israel reacted by threatening with military action. The Israeli cabinet actually made preparations for war. The American allies were reluctant to the military solution, favoring the continuation of sanctions imposed on Tehran.
