Leftovers don’t necessarily mean a bad thing, especially when we talk about food. Imagine, what would this world look like if there weren’t for those delicious pizza leftovers, or how many animals would have died from hunger if there weren’t for some merciful people to throw away their leftovers? Leftovers are a great way to save food, reduce your carbon footprint, save money, and also save time. Yet, a leftover doesn’t do anybody any good if it sits in the refrigerator for weeks only to be thrown away later. Here are some useful tips to make the most of your leftovers:
1. Don’t let them hang out too long – leftovers should be thought of as a time bomb. Make a habit out of properly wrapping and storing all leftover food within 2 hours of a meal.

2. The Smell and Sight Test – it is still one of the most popular methods to tell if a leftover is still good. But before reusing a leftover, make sure it doesn’t have any traces of odors, or signs of mold.

3. Keep your leftovers where you can see them – most of the times, leftovers are pushed away further back in the fridge until you can’t even tell you had them, and then you tend to forget them.11

You’re right! I often store my leftovers in the fridge thinking that I’m going to eat them later and somehow I push them further back in my refrigerator and I forget I even saved them in the first place. The next day I cook something different and by the time I discover my old leftovers, they are not suitable for eating anymore. I usually discover old bowl of food when I run out of space in the fridge and have to start cleaning. Now I came with a new method of not forgetting about my food: whenever I store a new bowl of food in the fridge, I leave a post-it note so I remember what is in there.
