Have you ever envisioned the food in your plate as being poisonous? Most probably you didn’t, yet we sometimes turn ourselves into real fans of toxic food. Have you ever thought of an apple as being poisonous? Your answer would certainly be a positive one if thinking about The Snow White story, yet there is no possible way for one to deem anything poisonous in an apple. As such many of us apply the saying which says that ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’.

Here is a list of common toxic foods to which many of us can not resist.

#10
Rhubarb

You most probably used this plant when cooking yet how many of you know that rhubarb contains oxalate and as such it is poisonous if ingested in large quantities? Containing oxalate it has been reported that it may cause poisoning when large quantities of raw or cooked leaves are consumed.

Rhubarb Plant

It is such an old plant, with such a rich historical background that no one even dared thinking about the poisoning part. Honestly who would even envisage a plant being used for medicinal purposes and horticulture since ancient China as being poisonous? Fortunately for those who enjoy consuming rhubarb not the whole plant is poisonous- only the leaves. The stems are edible and as tasty as ever and so are the roots which have been used for quite a while now for their laxative attribute.

#9
Elderberry

We often feel attracted to these trees as they are covered with thousands of delicate flowers already famous for their delicate surprising fragrance.

Elderberry

The flowers which we highly appreciate for their beauty prove to be equally tasteful when it comes to making elderflower liqueur or battered and deep fried ones. Yet flowers seem to be the only edible part of this tree as its roots are highly poisonous and as such you should stay away from them when it comes to cooking and eating elderberries.

#8
Mushrooms

When it comes to mushrooms I really believe that one should consume only the ones which are to be found in supermarkets.

I believe this is the safest choice ever. Since mushrooms are fungi and since we all are aware of the fact that there are so many species, it can be hard to know which are poisonous. Therefore better be safe than regret later when being in hospital.
