UPS 747 Plane Crashes in Dubai
A UPS 747 cargo plane crashed in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, shortly after it took off on Friday, the company said. The plane crashed inside an Emirati air base near a busy highway intersection ten miles southeast of the international airport in Dubai.
Al Arabiya television reported deaths, presumably of the members of the crew.
The state news agency reported that the crash occurred in a desert area and implied that there may not be casualties.
The spokeswoman for the UPS Kristen Petrella said the Boeing 747-400 went down at 8 a.m. The flight was on the way to Cologne, Germany. The spokeswoman said the plane had two crew members and didn’t confirm any casualties.
Still, according to an Associated Press photographer smoke could be seen at the crash site, though the site was shielded from the highway by high walls, where migrant laborers gathered to watch. A section of plane was on fire before it crashed.
This is not the only incident Boeing planes produce on UAE territory, as a Sudanese Boeing 707 crashed in the desert outside Dubai causing the death of six crew members. As a result, the UAE regulators forbade the Sudanese plane’s owner to operate in the country.
Boeing planes have been in the center of such accidents in many countries these few last years.
