US Open: Injured Del Potro will struggle to play
Last year’s US Open champion, Argentinean Juan Martin del Potro will struggle the next days to recover an older injury which threatened him with losing the Grand Slam tournament which till take place in August. However, the US Tennis Association announced the former US Open champion is listed among the entrants for the big tournament: “Juan Martin Del Potro … is expected to return to Grand Slam competition after missing the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this year.” Del Potro won the US Open in 2009 when he defeated the best tennis player ever Swiss Roger Federer in an uneasy five set match which ended 3-6, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. Argentina’s tennis-man finished also as runner-up in London the same year where he was ebaten by Nikolay Davydenko in two straight sets, 3-6, 4-6. Del Potro played in the same time Montreal’s final against Britain’s Andy Murray who beat the Argentinean in three sets 7-6, 6-7, 1-6, this being his last great performance of the year 2009.
Juam Martin del Potro’s Grand Slams results include a quarter final played in 2009 at Australian Open, a a better performance at Roland Garros where he reached the semi final the same year plus another runner-up at the Tour Finals the last year. He lies on the seventh place in the ATP, a very good position at least for the moment which allows him to be included in a favorable line at US Open. The 22 year old player won seven titles throughout his tennis carrer and one title for the doubles. Del Potro’s highest ranking was reached in January this year when he got fourth of the ATP world ranking.

His record rate is 66,8%, the player winning 141 matches and losing other 70, which is quite a reasonable performance taking account he just entered the ATP few years ago. However, he will have to struggle a lot in order to reach the first position in ATP, where lies Rafa Nadal, followed by Roger Federer. Anyhow, Del Potro demostrated during the last year he’s capable of beating even Federer which means he can also do it once again the next month at the US Open.
