There is a new cosmetic procedure meant to make you look younger, one that implies your own blood, and it seems that it very effective for wrinkle removing.

It is called Selphyl, and it operates by injecting a mixture of blood products into the wrinkled area. Given the name of “vampire facelift”, it is a non-invasive, non-surgical cosmetic procedure. The wrinkles disappear if you fill them with something, and there are two kinds of fillers: fillers that use parts of a person’s body (Selphyl or fat fillers) and artificial fillers (collagen). Selphyl is prepared by drawing the blood, separating its components, mingling them with a fibrin mixture and injecting them to the targeted area. In about a day, the excess of Selphyl is gone and a few weeks later the final results will appear. The patients are very pleased with the results and say that the procedure makes them look natural afterwards, which is exactly the thing that was missing from the traditional wrinkle treatment.

The results of Selphyl last about 15 months, which is longer than in the case of the other cosmetic fillers and it seems that there is little bruising involved and almost none allergic reaction, since the main ingredient is the same person’s blood. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says that this year the number of cosmetic procedures will be above 55 million, which is four times more than in 2005, and 97 percent of the total will be non-surgical.
