There are very few things you need to know before starting to write a blog. Already many businesses and companies have realized the enormous potential offered by this type of communication and gave up the classical company website in the favour of a blog. In short, a brief definition of the word “Blog” is based on the term “web log”, which in principle could be translated through online journal.

The first thing you should think before you hit the road to creating a blog, would be to find an answer to the question: “Why I want to realise with my blog?”. Whether you want to talk about yourself and your passions, to create a personal diary, to do a blog of news, to talk about a specific area that you enjoy or that you are sure it will catch the public, to make money or simply write out of passion, it’s important to be convinced that this is why you started to write. Then, after you have established this first issue you need to decide if you want to opt for a free hosted blog or your own address.

For those who have no experience and this field is quite new, we recommend you to start with a free solution. Platforms like WordPress or Blogger offer numerous facilities and the way they interact is one of the convenients for novice users. You don’t have to necessarily choose one of the above platforms. You can choose which platform you want, but do a little research before starting to work, just to see how safe and stable that platform is. Often it happens that different users have a surprise that all items are removed from the site that housed the blog, because it no longer exists. This should not happen to anyone, that is why is recommended to do a bit of documentation in advance, to prevent this kind of situations.

Although a free solution at first glance may seem ideal, there are plenty of drawbacks. Even if you have everything provided by the host site (I mean the technical support, configuration, tools), you clearly benefit from a reduced freedom both in terms of appearance of the blog and how it is perceived by others. It is clear that your own address  will always be more flexible to use than a hosted site. Free blogs tend to be considered less serious and less professional by the most visitors and unfortunately by the search engines as well. You start with a free platform, but then as you get to know better how to use the Internet and the tools for creating the best blog, thus you gain some knowledge in areas such as CSS, HTML, PHP, you can start a blog on a purchased domain. This implies you to pay month after month for your domain and this can of course be a secondary motivation to become much better and known than you are already. The fact that you have to pay a certain fee month after month will make you even more attentive to what are you writing about day after day.

Next there are presented a few features that are useful to know, from two of the most popular blogging platforms: WordPress and Blogger. Both offer free hosting.

WordPress:

* 3 GB of storage space for files and pictures
* Live statistics on traffic to your blog;
* Anti-spam protection;
* Ability to import your blog from any platform, on WordPress;
* Endless number of blogs;

Blogger:

* Google login using the account;
* Possibility of posting the mail;
* Team Blog (multiple users, a single blog)
* Interface available in 41 languages, including English;
* Advertising on the blog through AdSense;

A blog is one of the most viable solutions for those who want to be heard, and this mode of communication will remain popular for a long time to come. Regarding the two categories: paid / free,  for beginners it is recommended to try the free platforms and for those with higher aspirations and with some experience with online editing and writing, the most suitable option is a paid website.
