Women’s Sexual Orientation Determined By Genetics
Although up until now sexual orientation was a thing to which people did not relate genetics, it seems that genetics has a lot to do with a woman’s choice when it comes to her sexual orientation.
A new study, led by researchers in the United Kingdom, shows distinctly that both gender conformity and sexual orientation are genetics traits, when it comes to women. What the researchers from the University of London did was to look at the psychological traits of both boys and girls and they tried to determine the differences between the two. The researchers did this especially because previous studies have clearly shown that children who in adulthood become gays or lesbians have different traits from the children who in adulthood become heterosexuals.
The researchers followed these children who participated in the study into adulthood and according to what they wrote, it seems that 50 to 80 percent of the gender nonconforming boys became gays, while a third of the girls with the same traits became lesbians. From what Drs. Andrea Burri and Qazi Rahman stated, it seems that both genetics and the environment are responsible for gender nonconformity and for the female sexual orientation.
In this new study participated 4,000 British women who came from a pair of twins and they were all asked questions related to their sexual behavior and attractions and there were also some questions related to gender nonconformity. The results of the study showed that there is a link between the psychological traits of women and the sexual orientation these women end up having. Both the environmental factors and genetics engage other mechanisms to shape these differences in gender nonconformity and sexual orientation. According to what the researchers said, this study is very important to implement the mental health of gays and lesbians, because they are the ones to report more problems with anxieties and depressions. It seems that they have a poor mental health because of the social stigma and that is something which must end, in order for these people to lead a healthy, happy life.11
